Mr. Chewning followed in his neighbor's footsteps and began his Taekwondo training in 1986. While his neighbors soon discontinued their training Mr. Chewning found it helped his self-confidence and was great for his weight problem. After several years of training weight was no longer an issue and Mr. Chewning had become an athlete in several sports. Though he found that none helped him combat his low self-confidence and asthma as much as Taekwondo. In seventh grade he made the decision to dedicate himself fully to his training and instruction at the taekwondo academy. This has proven to be a decision that would change Mr. Chewning's life forever. Through his dedication to the martial arts Mr. Chewning has won several awards for instruction, is an 8x member of the ATA's national top ten, and a multiple school owner.

Now Mr. Chewning sets his goals outside of the competitive arena. He has taken on the role of a leader in trying to help mold the communities future leaders through training in the martial arts. Mr. Chewning had this to say "Martial arts has been the single greatest influence on my life outside of my family. It has something for everyone. Whether you are the star athlete or lack a bit of coordination. The life skills you gain thru training in the ATA are invaluable."
